Yes you could do that, and it would give you root access until you
closed the terminal or typed exit.  But for an inexperienced Linux user
having full-time root access in a terminal is a recipe for disaster.
But on the other hand, if you know what you're doing then it's perfectly
acceptable to do it your way.  That's the nice thing about GNU/Linux is
the ability to choose how you want to set up and administer your own system.
