create custom livecd remaster iso

Hi,

A little over a year ago I created LinguasOS (http://www.linguasos.org),
a livecd mini-distro aimed at professional translators, based on
PCLinuxOS. I had been using Ubuntu, but used PCLOS in this instance,
because they have a very easy to use remaster script with which one can
remaster a livecd from an existing system, so I just built the system I
wanted (loaded PCFluxboxOS onto a partition, installed specific
applications like OmegaT, removed unneeded stuff, customized the
artwork), and, easy as pie, ran the remaster script, and PRESTO-MÁGICO,
had an iso ready to drop onto my server for downloads by all.
The project serves as a means of demonstrating the benefits of FOSS and
gnu/linux to my professional translator colleagues
Now, I've returned to using Ubuntu, because PCLOS updates were breaking
stuff.
I would like to create a similar mini-livecd for translators, based on
Ubuntu or Crunchbang (move the LinguasOS project from PCLOS-based to
Ubuntu-based). So, I'm interested in finding a similar remastering tool.
The only thing I've found by googling is UCK, which is some nauseating
gui contraption that allows one to "customize" a system and remaster it,
but apparently only allows one to customize by choosing the language
packs and DE.
I want to be able to remaster an existing system onto livecd iso, like I
did with LinguasOS/PCFluxboxOS, creating a small livecd with the tools
professional translators use. (This same script on PCLOS can be used to
back-up an entire system to a livecd or dvd...pretty cool).
Understand that my h at X0r skills are limited, so I'm kind of hoping to
find a script or program like PCLOS has that does all the heavy lifting
of the iso remaster creation. Customizing the system, itself, I can
handle by myself.

Any ideas?

thanks,
tony
