about sudo and su

I forgot to mention that once you have been
root by using "sudo su" you "stay" root
even if you return to you own id as long
as that terminal window is open you stay root  stays open
all you have to do is type "sudo su"
and you are root again without having to type
the administrative password.Any number of times.
eventually you get kicked out but how long does it take
anyone?
