How can I upgrade ubuntu 8.04 to Jaunty from console?

never heard of that way, ive used this for every release, works fine.
sudo update-manager -d
to upgrade to 8.10
then
sudo update-manager -d
to upgrade to 9.04
have to take it one step at a time.
