Serious LDAP problem

Hi, all --

I recently tried to install LDAP on my system, and now I can't log onto one of my servers.

My PDC has LDAP Server loaded on it, and it would appear to be working OK.  It was the Additional server where the problem arose.  I tried to load LDAP Client on it (OR SHOULD THIS HAVE BEEN SERVER?).  In following several sets of directions given in several Ubuntu official and community postings, some of the individual pieces of LDAP appear to work, but when I try to log onto the additional server using either SSH or the GUI, I invariably get "Connection Refused."

I then did an apt-get purge on the additional server and tried to log on using SSH or the GUI and still get the "Connection Refused."  Anybody out there have an idea how I can go back to square 1 on that additional server?

Thanks.

cheers,
pete
