Agreed. This is way too much and with all the related subject matter, it's doing more harm to the list than all the stuff that's being complained about. Some facts, IMHO:
This is a worldwide user list with many diversified cultures and you will never get total, complete agreement on any subject; so why try.
There is more of this crap being discussed on the list, than actual Ubuntu and OS issues and I wonder why. Maybe we just like to hear ourselves talk about stupid issues.
These OT issues are getting so bad and long that I have now degraded myself to just deleting the legitimate user mail and only reading the OT subjects. This ain't good for the list.
If I were still a Newbie and checking out this list, I would very quickly go somewhere else and avoid this list like the plague.
Can't we please stop all this trash and get back to the real business of the Ubuntu User list before irreparable harm is done.
I don't really care if we have a moderator(s) or whatever, but those of you that feel that something needs to be done then please take it off list and do what you will. It doesn't matter to me what you do as long as it doesn't detract from list's business. IMO, these OT threads would just die off, and should, if people would just try hard not to reply to them. In a lot of cases, one says something to steps on another persons nationality, country or creed and that person just must reply; good, let him as he is entitled to do so, but let it die down as quickly as possible. We don't need all the OT noise in any case and it's not helping the list.
FWIW, my 2 cents.
