In Singapore, you get beaten with a cane for chewing gum. At least that's what I 
was told about 15 or so years ago. Hopefully the cultural reference to gum 
chewing in Singapore makes better sense now. Although around the time I 
mentioned, the government there came under a lot of fire because of something of 
this nature, so I'm not sure if such laws still exist there.
