Boot Failure after an Intrepid Update

Dear guys,

My Intrepid can't boot after an update, it says:
  /dev/disk/by-uuid/... does not exist.

According to its guide, I tried to run *cd /dev/disk* but failed.
And if I try *cat /proc/modules* it says:

thermal 23708 0 Live 0x ...
processor ... Live
fan ... Live
fuse ... Live
vesafb ... Live
fbcon ... Live
tileblit ... Live
font ... Live
bitblit ... Live
softcursor ... Live

I'm using dell 500m notepad and ubuntu 8.10 used to be very well with it.
Besides, I have already tried fsck with live cd.
Is it that my kernel module has something lost in the update so I can't get
it boot?

Thanks very much for your time.
