Is ACPID essential?

Disabling it isn't really a good idea. It controls important management 
stuff like power and thermal controls. Exactly what it does or does not 
do depends on your precise hardware.

Why do you want to turn if off ? It is isn't causing you problems I 
would just leave it, if it is giving problems, what are they ?
