.Xdefaults not being read after i reboot.

I tried this method but not all of the settings in ~/.Xdefaults worked; for example, the color settings were as i wanted them but the size of the terminal reverted back to the default 80x24.

Fortunately, simply changing the file to ~/.Xresources did the trick.
