Until pulseaudio works better, I just remove it from all Ubuntu installs

sudo -i
cp /etc/X11/Xsession.d/70pulseaudio /etc/X11/Xsession.d/70pulseaudio.bak
rm /etc/X11/Xsession.d/70pulseaudio
killall pulseaudio
apt-get remove pulseaudio
apt-get install esound
