Verifying WPA Connection

I'm running Ubuntu Hardy Heron on a desktop machine that's developed a strange
network manager quirk.
I need to verify the connection to remote machines as WPA-encrypted. The
router is a Linksys WRT54G. The router is locked down without any listening
ports. However, Network Manager does not show my connections to wireless
machines as being WPA. There's no shield in the list of wireless clients
signifying an encrypted connection.
I've been running this router for a couple of years without any problems, and
I just now noticed the lack of WPA indication when I'm hooked into the
Linksys.
How can I verify the encryption?
Thanks,
JL
