Actually, according to my upgrade widget, there is 20 minutes left on
the 9.04 download. But, I've already investigated the Intel chipset
thing, and am not optimistic. Its a known issue.

For me the upgrade 8.04 -> 8.10 had immediate and horrible performance
ramifications. I've minimized a lot of that by moving to xfce,
changing screen resolutions, using text mode apps (which is fine with
me actually), and various xorg.conf tweaks. But the continued abysmal
performance of Firefox is close to being a show stopper. Things like
typing or scrolling cause 100% CPU usage. Really, really, really
majorly annoying. Anyway, I am glad I am not new to Ubuntu, as I would
have run as fast as possible back to windows. And hopefully, 9.04 has
some relief. We will see soon enough. And hells bells, it wouldn't be
Linux if it worked first time every time. There just has to be an
occasional challenge to put hair on your chest.
