It was fuel-injected. I won't say that it's impossible, but I don't
think that I've ever heard of a vapor-lock condition in a fuel
injected vehicle. I suspect that it is because the fuel pump is in the
tank, so the fuel line is under pressure, not vacuum (carbs have the
fuel pump on the motor block).

But you do notice that ambient conditions are different in the morning
than they are in the evening, which ties into Gary's observation well.
