Go to "Options" then "Sound Devices" and try changing the "Sound Out"
pulldown menu until it works.

(If you get the "problem with audio capture" message, try the same for
"Sound In".)

I sometimes get this problem after a distribution upgrade or if I've
been fiddling with a USB sound device since the last time I ran Skype.
