Ubuntu AMD64 will not allow you to use much more than 3Gb if your
video board has 1Gb due to the RAM area needed to manage it.Your
available memory will be pretty much the same with i386 or AMD64.

I can see no benefit in choosing AMD64 install, not for a 4 Gb system.
