Modem on Presario 2100 and i386 questions

The only modems that work for sure with Linux are external modems
which these days work through a USB port. I have no idea what the ALI

You can apt-get install all the compilers you want. Look in the
Sympatic package thing for all the compilers and other things. I am
today writing C++ on a i386 with zero problems.
