Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit modem problems.

It's been many years since I've set up a win modem and used one.  However, you might try creating the missing file /dev/slamr0 as the error message states and try again the install.  Just a thought, no guarantees but creating the file certainly wont hurt anything and can be removed if not successful.
