Are you booting from a CD or DVD?

If a DVD, check to see if there is a kernel with the pae (physical
address extension) flag on the DVD. If so select it to install.
This allows the kernel to use all of the memory the MB supports.

Most or (all) MB's have a limitation of 3.25 =/- a couple of of bytes.
