sudo aptitude install slapd
sudo dpkg-reconfigure slapd

and maybe you'll want these too:

sudo aptitude install ldap-utils phpldapadmin

ldap-utils has ldapsearch, and phpldapadmin will pull apache, php, etc for a
nice "gui" tool for openldap :-)
