Why doesn't Firefox on Ubuntu fill in passwords on forms?

When I've used Firefox on Windows, when I go to a page that corresponding to
an entry in my passwords list, I believe it filled in the login name &
passwords fields with the data stored in my passwords list.  I've noticed
recently after using Ubuntu regularly for a couple of months that Firefox
never does this anymore (I don't have an easily available WIndows box right
now to validate the previous behavior).  Is this expected behavior?
