new install 9.04 server, problem resolving domains

$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver <IP address>
nameserver <IP address>

sudo nano /etc/resolv.conf

nano is already installed and an easy cli editor.

Also provide the output of:

$ cat /etc/hosts
