Hi,
I try to run cool&quiet on LTS 8.04, installed yesterday, original kubuntu kernel.
I googl'ed much, but no solution found:
sudo modprobe powernow-k8
results always in:
FATAL: Error inserting powernow_k8
Details:
aptitude install powernowd .. worked fine.
gerlach at rex4:/etc/X11$ sudo powernowd
powernowd: PowerNow Daemon v0.97, (c) 2003-2006 John Clemens
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/affected_cpus: No such file or directory
powernowd: err=2
powernowd: Found 2 scalable units: -- 1 'CPU' per scalable unit
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/cpuinfo_max_freq: No such file or directory
PowerNowd encountered and error and could not start.
Please make sure that:
- You are running a v2.6.7 kernel or later
- That you have sysfs mounted /sys
- That you have the core cpufreq and cpufreq-userspace
modules loaded into your kernel
- That you have the cpufreq driver for your cpu loaded,
(for example: powernow-k7), and that it works. Check
'dmesg' for errors.
If all of the above are true, and you still have problems,

google: does motherboard ASUS M2NPV-VM support cool&quite?
YES -> motherboard supports AMD socket AM2 single-core Athlon 64/ Sempron
and dual-core Athlon 64 X2/ Athlon 64 FX 5D
processors with 2MB / 1MB / 512KB
L2 cache, which is based on 64-bit architecture. It features 2000 / 1600 MT/s
HyperTransport Bus, dual-channel un-buffered DDR2 800 memory support and
AMD Cool 'n' Quiet! Technology.
But in my Phoenix BIOS I found nothing to cool&quite.
