First of all remove all your attempts at installing Flash Player 10 so
they don't interfere with the following. I'd offer you advice on
how to do that but you haven't said how you attempted to install.

Open Synaptic and go to Settings/Repositories, enable hardy-backports
hit Reload to make sure an update has occured. Search for
flashplugin-nonfree, make sure it's version 10 and select it for
install or upgrade. 

Enabling hardy-backports /should/ be safe enough if you haven't
manually installed a lot of packages. Before you do approve of the next
round of updates, that will come from enabling backports, do a
thorough check on what is getting updated.
