Networking Problem - Firewall blocking traffic from Ubuntu but allows Windows

Thanks everybody for the quick responses.

I have collected more information about the network. Running the
tracepath test with variable packet size will have to wait till the
next working day i.e. monday. I had verified that the machines get the
same ip addresses when booted off from Ubuntu or Windows. I had also
statically set IP addresses in Ubuntu with the same IP allocated on
Windows but with the same result. MAC addresses were also not set to
custom values - it remained the same in Windows and Ubuntu.

Here is the path to the machine from the network

4MBps Leased line modem provided by ISP. The modem gets the public ip
allocated to the network.

CISCO 1721 Router with WIC 2T port that supports 4MB synchronous
communication connected to the Modem via V.35 port on WAN side and to
the Symantec UTM box 5640 on the other side

Symantec UTM box 5640 - Firewall, does NAT as well.

Cisco L3 switch 4507. Managed switch, works as DHCP server also.
Ubuntu laptops does in fact get ip addresses allocated from the switch

CISCO Aeronet 1131AG (configured as access point). Wireless access
security based on MAC addresses. The laptops get connected both from
Ubuntu and Windows.
