A potentially helpful .02 from me:
I had similar issues under intrepid and jaunty...turns out whenever I
got a text message or call to my cell phone the radio interference was
causing just enough to drop my wireless.
The fix for me was changing routers. No such issues on a Linksys, where
the Belkin which had been in use was at fault. So I find in retrospect
that both gnome-nm and wicd both work just fine for me.
Now, what has this to do with the OP? My point here is that cell or
other radio interference can definitely affect other wireless protocols.
It might be an issue for the OP, it might not, but its worth
consideration.
