T60 and ATi mobile radeon x1400

Unfortunately I tried installing proprietory driver from ati but this 
did not fix my suspend problem.  Still no suspend on my hardy notebook.

Is there an easy way to switch back to the open source video driver for 
this hardware, perhaps just by editing the xorg config file?  I did not 
uninstall any drivers only built and installed ati deb packages.
