A lot of banks, stockbrokers, and other big firms run their core systems
on IBM mainframes, a big box with DB2 as the SQL database. Their
desktops are fairly often Windows, though.
High-end Sun servers running Solaris with an Oracle database have
a substantial piece of that market too, also HP, IBM, ... Some
databases even live on Windows machines with MS-SQL.
IBM, HP and Sun are all involved in Linux work. Whether that will
replace Solaris, HP/UX and AIX seems to be an open question.
