It looks like Chrome nicely requests updates just like any other
software installed via apt-get:

$ sudo apt-get upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages will be upgraded:
  google-chrome-unstable libaprutil1
2 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 12.9MB of archives.
After this operation, 348kB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue [Y/n]?

I did not know that this was even possible without configuring a repo.
I installed via a .deb package.
