Don't know about kubuntu, but have a look at my recent posts regarding
reinstalling & keeping home from hardy to jaunty and back:

[be sure to click the 'continue reading' on the last two posts.
*WARNING* Backup *first* & proceed at your own risk! The methods worked
for me, but they may not work for you. Also note that I didn't test
intrepid-jaunty/jaunty-intrepid, but should work just the same as
hardy-jaunty/jaunty-hardy, *and* note that they were done using gnome
(ubuntu) vs kde (kubuntu).
