My main reason is speed.
Home:
I am connected on internet over a GPRS connexion and I'd rather cache 
DNS queries/results locally. That saves me some times.
Work:
I have a VSAT connexion with 300ms latency to the world. I'd rather have 
DNS on the LAN.
