If you know something about the command line you can do this easily in the
rescue mode.
Boot your system into rescue mode. (You can do this by typing "ESC" when
the grub menu appears.) If you have no root password set (Ubuntu default
configuration), you can just
login as root with no password (this is a security flaw...). Then you can
type:
passwd <USERNAME>
and you can set the password for <USERNAME> new. You must exchange
<USERNAME> with your actual user name! Reboot the system by typing "reboot"
( or you can type exit or you can just hit ctrl+d )
And your are done.
That's it.
