Mirroring one X session across multiple machines

For training purposes I might want to show the same X session on a
half a dozen screens. I don't have any decent hardware to work with.
Multiple head video cards are definitely NA. I'm thinking multiple
machines each with it's own monitor - One master, a bunch of repeaters
that don't need to interact, just display. All on a LAN.
Anybody done that? What's the best choice - VNC? just X? NoMachine
stuff? something else?

Comments appreciated.
