I think you will be out of luck with this one.  I cannot vouch for
your particular case but generally the recovery CD that comes with the
PC reformats the HDD and either writes an image to it which gets you
back to to a working windows system, having destroyed anything already
there, or it copies an image from a recovery partition on the HDD onto
the boot partition.  It sounds as if the latter may be you case as you
mention a recovery partition.  If you have cleared that you have lost
your windows I am afraid.  That is why you would have to send the
machine back to supplier for re-formating.

In retrospect possibly the best solution would have been to install
Ubuntu as a dual boot, leaving Windows there but shrinking the windows
partition down to whatever minimum you thought you could get away
with.  It may be a bit late now though.
