For as long as Oracle needs an open source database to compete in
government markets...

Oh, did you know they own InnoDB which is the most commonly used
datastore for MySQL in the enterprise environment? Yes... InnoDB is Oracle.
And... did you know they own BerkeleyDB, an open source database that is
embedded into operating systems?

Also... MySQL is GPL. They can't un-GPL it. Pandora's box is open. You
can't close it.

They *could* decide to make MySQL 7 non GPL. But that probably would
result in an immediate open source fork from the MySQL 6.x source tree
(since MySQL 6.x is still GPL).

MySQL is here to stay.
