.ISO for Ubuntu 9.04 NBR

looking through the previous posts from your thread, and the mirrors,
there is no 'official' ubuntu 9.04 NBR .iso image.  I believe the .ISO
image that was mentioned was the one available here:
http://eeebuntu.virginmedia.com/Eeebuntu%203.0%20Editions/index.html
click the "Eeebuntu 3.0.1 NBR" link, it's an ISO.

does just using the .img file to make the bootable USB key not allow
persistence? I'm not sure, as I've never tried it before.

in case you were having trouble just putting the .img file on the USB
key, the command you would use is:

sudo dd if=/path/to/image.img of=/path/to/USB-stick
