Ahh - "stiction" :)  If by 'percussion adjustment' you mean 'power it
up and smack it with a screwdriver', then that's my favorite method
too ;)

I've never tried this freezer trick, but if I had some files that were
not backed up - I'd consider it.  Putting the HD into an external USB
enclosure seems like a good idea though.  I would be reluctant to
stick any freezing-cold object directly inside of a production
machine.
