create raid1 on a installed system

the url also talks about disk partition needs to be "Linux raid
autodetect" type.

So two things in the url http://www.debian-administration.org/articles/238
is what I cannot follow

   - mkinitrd
   - raid autodetect type partition

I am looking for an article that explains steps without the above two
limitations.
