Oh, vga=6 or whatever works fine. I tried some lower numbers too for
30 rows or 43. The console flips straight into the new resolution.
Then as soon as init starts, it flips straight back to 80x25.
Bear in mind, Ubuntu Server does not use usplash. There's no graphical
boot screen. It starts in text mode and stays in text mode.
If you're trying this on desktop Ubuntu, once it's finished booting,
try flipping to one of the text-mode vconsoles with Alt-F1/2/3/4. They
should be in 80x60 or whatever. If they're plain old VGA 80x25, it
hasn't worked - init has reset the res back down.
