Hello,

Yes other stations worked.

This was written before my final install. Now I have no problems
getting the Corus stations but can't get CBC RadioOne stations. I
can get BBC and NPR (at least the local stations & Prairie Home
Companion's website).

I am going through my mail now, after a few days. Hope to find
information on my other question, which was which email client
was best. It seems that more recommend Thunderbird. I will try it
to see if I can save files without HTML codes.

Thomas

I tried CHML and it is streaming fine. Listening to old radio shows
now. (Check out Shivers Radio and live365 & shoutcast - there's a ton
of that genre out there, if you're interested.)

I can't tell you (because I don't know) what is so special about
Corous stations in Canada that they would need special codecs or
plugins to make them work. For instance, some stations are starting to
require Silverlight (Windows only) to make them stream, but there is a
free replacement called Moonlight that you can install - at least it
works with one station in Modesto, CA, that I couldn't get to stream
under Ubuntu without that addon.

Ubuntu and Firefox have been more than helpful in suggesting extra
plugins and libraries to install when the requirements for them come
up, but it's just a matter of trying the content to see if it works.

I can also get CBC Radio, although their output volume is
substantially less than that of some other stations - but that's
hardly a Ubuntu issue. BBC radio 3 transmits audio rather faintly as
well.

When you did the upgrade, did you do just a cd upgrade (new install)
or a distribution upgrade?

If the former, you probably held some packages that are not installed
by default when you did a reinstall.

Do other online radio stations work?
