And the keyboard model/make/connection is?
Do you make it to the gdm login screen?
Does the keyboard work if you boot to the recovery kernel?
Does the keyboard also fail if you do a hard boot instead?

Googling on:
<http://www.google.com/search?complete=0&hl=en&q=ubuntu+%2B"%2Fdevices%2Fplatform%2Fi8042%2Fserio0%2Finput%2Finput1"&btnG=Search>

brings up a few possibilities. But it would be hard to help further
without the added information. You might also try unplugging the
keyboard after boot, waiting a few seconds & then plugging it back in to
see if it gets detected then.

You might also check:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dbus
<https://launchpad.net/+search?field.text=i8042>

Perhaps one of i8042.reset i8042.nomux i8042.nopnp i8042.noloop in grub
boot options will help.
