I got my 500 GB HDD partitioned into 50 GB sections and have plenty unused partitions left after having oem Vista installed along with Hardy and Entrepid installed. On my 50 GB Entrepid partition, only use about 17% space. I think you can install Ubuntu on as little as 10 GB partitions as I've seed on the list comments but you may be limited on what you can add to it.
