It works in my shuttle.  Did out of the box at 8.10 and upgrade.  I see
that you can either try back one distro or, for trouble shooting
disconnect all hard drives and remove RAM (if available get a known good
stick of RAM).  Start with just an optical drive and a single stick of
RAM.  Boot to LiveCD.  Add Hardware until failure.  Tedious but
effective.  If you are experiencing hardware failure this should
pinpoint it.
