As a workaround, set up a shared drive for the XP virtual. Copy the
files from the USB stick to the shared drive, and they will be visible
to the XP guest.
With the guest stopped, select the guest in VB, select Settings ->
Shared Folders, then click the plus icon and give the path to a
directory on the host and a name for the shared folder. You can then
mount this shared folder in the guest using that name as if it was a
network drive.
On the host, copy the files from the USB stick to the shared folder, and
they will be visible to the XP guest on the mounted drive. Once set up,
this works while the guest is running too.
It's not ideal, but will solve your immediate problem while you work on
sorting out the USB thing.
