Thanks much for the suggestions. I'm reading through the upgrade docs now,
and will go through these steps this evening. The puzzling part was that I
lost the primary display completely (Dell 17" digital flat screen monitor).
Maybe the recovery process will bring that back. If not, I'll get the plasma
working again, and then see if I can use the dual-head instructions from
Ubuntu to get that back up. After the fact I can always change it to the
default display.
