sound problem on youtube

sometimes, when you close firefox just by clicking the X, it doesnt always close the firefox engine, so when you go to bring up an instance of firefox, it will tell you that its already open and will refuse to run unless you kill firefox-bin. i think thats a bug with firefox

I have this problem sometimes with my ubuntu 7.10 box. The only solution for me is to type:

sudo /etc/init.d/alsasound stop
sudo modprobe snd_hda_intel  <-----this command will only work if you are using an intel (related) sound card

Thats what works for me, but i dont think this will help in this area, since the problems is only with flash. I have had problems with alsa before where I will get sound on 1 program, but not another. Try using Pulseaudio instead
