Karmic

I believe the video drivers sit in the kernel. Would it be OK to grab
only the latest kernel from Karmic and keep the rest of the system
as-is?
I have an Intel card and I installed the 2.6.30 kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v2.6.30/linux-image-2.6.30-020630-generic_2.6.30-020630_i386.deb
which is working much better with this card. I have no automatic
update though and was wondering wether using Karmic's kernel would
help me receive updates?
