Just to clarify - The 8.04 Live CD doesn't work, and it used to?
That sounds like hardware....
We need to find out if the problem is just no display or locked up
computer - can you ping it after the screen goes black? Does
Cntrl-Alt-F1 show you a text only prompt? If not, try to log in
'blind' - e.g. Hit control-Alt-F1, type your
username<return>password<return> wait 5 seconds, then type
'beep<return>' and see if you hear a beep.
