Ubuntu 8.4 problem

Hello Group,

I purchased a used computer with Ubuntu  already running and was
unfamiliar with it. At first I was scared to death of it,, but gave it
a try and now I really like it. The only problem I have is that I
bought it to run an embroidery machine on it and the embroidery
machine will not run with Ubuntu! I do not want to get rid of Ubuntu
and I tried to install Windows with Ubuntu but all it will do is open
the folders and not let me run anything. I am not very computer savvy,
being a baby boomer - please, can anybody offer suggestions on how I
can keep Ubuntu and also use my embroidery machine also?
