gksu is needed (err, or should I say, very strongly recommended, I never
use it) to launch GUI applications with root privileges. As far as I
recall, apt-get is still a console app and will function just fine with
sudo.
More importantly, gksu, being a gnome gui app, might present a chicken
and egg problem in this case.
